How to Change a uPVC Door Handle

This quick tutorial will help you replace a uPVC door handle. For a visual guide, see the video.

Step 1. Measure Your Handle:
Measure the PZ (distance from spindle to keyhole), screw centres, and the overall backplate size to match your replacement handle.
Step 2. Remove the Old Handle:
Unscrew the backplate and take off both handles, along with the spindle bar.
Step 3. Fit the New Handle:
Insert the spindle bar into the lock, then align both backplates and check that the handle moves smoothly.
Step 4. Secure and Test:
Tighten all screws securely, then test the handle’s operation several times to ensure proper function.
Step 5. Check the Mechanism:
Manually turn the spindle inside the lock to ensure the latch and lock operate correctly.

Measuring a uPVC Door Handle

These are the measurements used in this section:

A - Also known as PZ - the distance from the spindle hole to the centre of the key hole. This measurement is crucial.
B - Distance between the centre of the top screw and the centre of the bottom screw.
C - Overall length of the backplate
D - Distance between the centre of the key hole and the centre of the bottom screw
E - Width of the backplate
